OTC Update & 2017 AGM information

Attention Members,

The courts will be closed on Tuesday, September 26th from 9 am until 4 pm so that the contractor can install the centre strap pins.

Our AGM will be on October 5th from 7 to 7:30 pm. If you are interested in helping on the executive next season, please come out. Below are the various positions for election:

PRESIDENT

The President shall preside at all meetings of members and of the Executive and shall see that all orders and resolutions of the members or of the Executive are carried into effect. The president shall act as liaison with the tennis representative from the Sports Unit. He/She will update the Incorporation papers and any other important documents. He/She will ensure that events are promoted and advertised.

VICE-PRESIDENT

The Vice-President shall, in the absence of the President, perform the duties and exercise the powers of the President and shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive. Provide advice to President. This can be a training position for assuming the Presidency. The vice-president will assist the Maintenance Director to organize the Club opening and closing.

TREASURER

The Treasurer shall have the custody of the funds of the Club and keep full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements in books belonging to the Club. He/she shall deposit all monies and other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the Club. He/she shall disburse the funds of the Club as may be ordered by the Executive, taking proper vouchers for such disbursements, and shall render to the President and the Executive, whenever they may require, an account of all his/her transactions as Treasurer and of the financial position of the Club, using proper accounting methods.

SECRETARY

The Secretary shall attend all meetings of the Executive and of the members and act as the Secretary thereof and record all votes and minutes of all proceedings in the books to be kept for that purpose. He/she shall give or cause to be given notice of all meetings of the members and of the Executive. The secretary will send out the minutes to all executives within a month of each meeting.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR

The Membership Director shall have the responsibility of promoting membership in the Club, collecting dues and issuing membership cards and/ or identification tags to each paid-up member. The Membership Director shall remit all monies received together with a general accounting of same, to the Treasurer, on a regular basis.

MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR

The Maintenance Director shall change the lock at the beginning of every season, purchase new keys and provide the city with the key. He/She will be responsible for contacting the City of Mississauga to book contractors for court lighting or tennis courts with the assistance of the President. The Chair will assist the Vice-President to organize the Club opening and closing.

WEB DESIGN DIRECTOR

The Web Design Director shall be responsible for designing and updating the Club’s website as needed. The committee will also email flyers/reminders to members to promote upcoming events. He/she shall also perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive.

SOCIAL DIRECTOR

The Social Director shall arrange and supervise all social activities of the Club. He/she shall also perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive.

2017 Registration

Hi everyone,

Registration night will take place on Tuesday, August 8th from 7 to 8:30 pm at the courts. That night, we will be attaching a master lock and once you register, we will give you the combination. The registration form is attached. Please come to the courts with the form filled in and bring your tennis racquet.

If you cannot make it to registration, then you can drop it off at Denis' home or you can contact Charmaine at cvandonkersgoed@yahoo.ca.

July Update – Bruce Reynolds Park

Hello everyone!

We are pleased to report the following on the reconstruction of Bruce Reynolds Park, courtesy of Michael Gusche, Project Manager, Park Development:

​

• The parking lot is now open with access from Springbank Road only.

• The Oakridge Tennis Club is preparing to open the courts in the next few weeks.  For details on the tennis courts, please contact Tanya Porcellato, President of the Oakridge Tennis Club at tanya.porcellato@gmail.com

• Fencing around the perimeter of the park will remain in place until the grass has had a chance to grow in.  The grass is taking well because of the steady rainfall and cool nights so far this summer. 

• Part of the playground will be installed in the next few weeks. It will remain closed, however, until the grass has grown in.   

• City staff is keeping a close eye on the grass and will open the park as soon as possible.

• In the meantime, please respect the fencing and stay out of the park. 

   

• Please do not allow your dog to run off leash anywhere in the park.  Be responsible - scoop and clean up after your dog and dispose of the bag properly and do not throw it anywhere in the park. Dog owners and walkers who fail to "stoop and scoop" their dogs’ excrement can be fined.  All offences are subject to a fine of $90.00 plus a $20.00 service charge.

Reynold's Park Renovations

Dear OTC Members,

Due to the rainy weather, the courts have been delayed until July 17th. I know it's been a difficult season, but we are going to have brand new tennis courts. We are looking forward to trying them out soon!

Dear OTC Members,

Adam's family has asked me to let you know that Adam's celebration of life will be happening on June 10th at 11 am.  The location will be at HMCS York. The address is 659 Lake Shore Blvd West, Toronto, M5V 1A7.

They are planning on having some time for guests to say some remarks about Adam if they wish. Everyone is welcome.

With deep sadness, I must inform you that Adam Habayeb passed away a few weeks ago. His kindness and passion for tennis will be remembered by all. Flowers were sent to his family last week on behalf of the club members.

Some changes had to be made to the existing executive. Presently, the executive is made up of the following volunteers:

VP - Darrell Ruby

Finance - Denis Dermit

Membership/Secretary - Charmaine Bigornia

Web Design - Kate Buczek

President - Tanya.

If anyone has any objections to these changes or would like to volunteer on the executive as well, please let us know. We are always open to new recruits.

The city sent us an email recently to inform us that the park and tennis club should be open on June 1st, 2017. We have decided to postpone registration until late May. We will send you updates as we receive them. Dean will not be running the league this season, but it will be back again for 2018. We are hoping to replace it with a drop-in Round Robin.
